Keeping Your Spirits Up After Multiple Job Interviews

Many of us have experienced downturns in our careers. Whether through layoffs, cutbacks or company closings, most of us will have to look for work at some point in our lives. As we find the number of job interviews beginning to stack up, our confidence many begin to fade and we wonder if we will ever find work again. Here's a few things to remember as you continue to schedule and go to job interviews.

Remind yourself that you have a powerful set of skills and valuable experience to share. The trick is to find the right place to apply these gifts. On the job interviews that you have been through thus far, the fit was not quite right. Be grateful that you were not offered a job that may in fact prevent you from finding a much more suitable position. Not getting a job when you apply for it is not a sign of failure. It is simply a process of eliminating one more potential variant in your quest to find the right position. Most of us have to go through a host of job interviews before we strike gold. Stop seeing the endless job interviews as failed chances and more like opportunities to narrow the search.

After going on a half dozen or so job interviews, you may find yourself repeating the same old statements, almost as if you have developed a litany. Put an end to that predilection at once. Verbiage that sounds canned, rehearsed or just plain stale will not help you get the dream job, once it comes along. Review past job interviews and brainstorm on various possible ways to respond to the standard questions, still being honest but just with different words. This will help you to look and feel sharp during the interview. Job interviews can either be viewed as an impediment to be overcome, or as an opportunity that brings one step closer to your ultimate goal: a job that is right for you. Don't allow a trail of job interviews cause you to lose sight of that goal. In time you will find the right position with the right organization. In the interim, trust in yourself and keep those job interviews flowing.
